The punitive action following Pocono isn't over quite yet.

NASCAR fined and suspended the crew chief of Front Row Motorsports' No. 34 car and took points from the team after an illegal part was discovered on the car following Sunday's race at Pocono, the race organized announced Tuesday evening.

Blake Harris, who is the crew chief for driver Michael McDowell, was fined $100,000 and suspended from the next four Cup Series championship points races after NASCAR found the non-compliant part. The team was also hit with a penalty of 100 driver points and 100 owner points.

McDowell's car was randomly selected for inspection at the NASCAR R&D facility after the race at Pocono. It was during this inspection that NASCAR officials located an illegally modified part from a single-source supplier. While the series has yet to give specifics about the modified part, Fox News reports the violation was related to "altering seams/body filler."

McDowell won’t lose out on his 6th-place finish at Pocono, as the infractions were discovered after race results were made official. That’s regardless of the fact that the driver actually finished in 8th on the track, and was only bumped up as a result of the disqualification of 1st and 2nd place drivers Danny Hamlin and Kyle Busch. The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were penalized for illegal tape work beneath their respective liveries.

Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass noted that the sixth place finish will not count in any tie-breaking scenario, however. McDowell will also lose out on 10 playoff points should he make the postseason. McDowell is currently 26th in the series rankings, and only the top 16 drivers participate in the postseason.
